Genetic analysis of aromatic and medicinal plants (MAPs)
- Genetic analysis and correlation among the genetic profile, the chemical composition of essential oils and the agronomic traits in important MAPs. Our goal is to identify genotypes with superior traits that will be utilized as starting genetic material in plant breeding schemes.
- Study on the genetic structure of important MAPs and risk assessment due to overexploitation, for protection and conservation management.
- Molecular fingerprinting of plant raw material for authentication purposes.
- Production of certified plant propagating material
Horticultural Plants – Traditional varieties and landraces
- Assessment of genotypic and phenotypic variability in crop species including landraces and traditional varieties, using molecular markers and morphological descriptors. Evaluation of the genetic material and protection against genetic erosion.
- Detection of DNA polymorphisms in key enzymes participating in the biochemical pathways of important secondary metabolites. Evaluation of gene expression profile of enzymes related to organoleptic traits and the chemical composition of fruits.
Conservation Genetics – Molecular Phylogeny
- Analysis of genetic diversity of rare and endangered endemic plant taxa
- Determination of the phylogenetic relationships of various plant taxa at different taxonomic levels
